Has anyone tried this Spikko from Israel? Apparently, its service is similar to VoIPUser's service in the sense its outbound minutes are supported by incoming minutes. In order to use this service, you will need to get an invitation from an existing member. I managed to get one invitation and am a member now. I must say I am a bit disappointed that I don't see any support to use the free services with a SIP compliant ATA device and/or asterisk. Since a Spikko account is composed of alphabetic (not numeric) characters, it almost impossible to place a free Spikko2Spikko call using a telephone keypad with an ATA device and/or asterisk.
If anyone is interested to get an invitation to try Spikko free services (VoIP + SMS), feel free to PM me your e-mail address. -- Mazilo always prays for FREEBIES! US Phone: +1-678-601-0907 UK Phone: +44-703-194-2574

Ordinary, I would recommend users of this type of service to expose their DID #s to telemarketers to call them so they can accrue their inbound minutes to pay for outbound minutes; however, I don't think it is possible to do this with an account from Spikko which share all numbers through a single DID with different extensions. If telemarketers support extensions, that will be a different story. -- Mazilo always prays for FREEBIES! US Phone: +1-678-601-0907 UK Phone: +44-703-194-2574

| reply to mazilo It appears that currently the phone number they would assign you would be a number in Israel.
Being that you earn points when people call your number, and if that number is in Israel, it's a challenge.
They do say they hope/plan to have additional countries.
Their instructions do say that service can be accessed by softphone or by a USB-compliant phone.
The website is kind of glirky (glitchy + quirky) to navigate. If you start at the main page, then go to FAQ, then go to Spikkophone Installation---Installation Guide, you'll get a PDF. Go to page 23 of that PDF for USB-compliant phone instructions.
Overall, seems like a lot of work for minimal benefit. |

This is really pathetic to have especially they advertised to lure and to attract consumers with a real Israelis PSTN number for life. I would think this kind of ad is pretty deceptive.

They do say they hope/plan to have additional countries. It looks like they are expanding to the US.
Their instructions do say that service can be accessed by softphone or by a USB-compliant phone. AFAIK, their service is based on an XMMP (eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol - also known as Jabber protocol) which is supported under asterisk.

| reply to mazilo I get calls from Israel once in a while. On average probably a few hours a month. Let's say 200 minutes.
An Israeli DID costs me roughly $5 give or take, or 2.5 cents a minute. Using Spikko would be free for me but would cost whoever calls me about 8-9 cents/minute - or a total of $16.5/month assuming 200 minutes a month.
All these "free" services are not free at all. They are very expensive when aggregated over time. It's just that you're shifting the payment burden from you to whoever's calling you.
Another classic example is services like IpKall. Sure, it's free to you - but calling those numbers costs 10 times more per minute than it costs to call a regular phone number. Phone companies have been shouldering most of those costs as part of all-you-can-eat plans, but those kind of services are pure abuse of reciprocal compensation. Rural carriers with a local population of 2000 people end up serving tens of thousands of people who don't even live there - yet are allowed to charge 10x incoming rates for those calls because they're "rural". -- Nitzan Kon, CEO Future Nine Corporation |

This is definitely; however, you can expose your Spikko DID # to telemarketers for them to call you, especially if you configure your Spikko account on an asterisk system to send Spikko incoming calls from telemarketers to loop inside to get their minutes for you to call out. This way, you don't have to pay to place outbound calls. -- Mazilo always prays for FREEBIES! US Phone: +1-678-601-0907 UK Phone: +44-703-194-2574
