| [General] Virtual Number for Forwarding Only
Hello everyone. I need a number in the Southeast FL area (preferably 305) that I can set up to have calls forwarded to my cellphone, office, or home. I appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Also any info about Grand Central. Someone suggested it but I am not very familiar with it. Thanks in advance. |

| Grand Central is currently a closed Beta - they' aren't accepting any new accounts. You can read all about them at »www.grandcentral.com
If they were still accepting new accounts, they'd probably be a great alternative for you. Alas, you'll need to see what other options people offer up... |

| reply to kissangelo I was looking for something similar - may not work for you but I went with Voicestick given that I didn't expect much volume.
There was another provider I almost went with »les.net/products/product_ipdidusa.php but given the occasional use only, I went with Voicestick.
Actually, just found this link: »www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/DID+···roviders - might be worth looking through the list here. |

| reply to kissangelo Two suggestions, depending on volume required and based on personal experience. Both offer good [great?] flexibility in routing numbers just about anywhere you want.
VOIPo for lighter volume as mentioned above. If you don't see a number in the area you need, ASK! Very easy on-line management of 'immediate' routing changes.
Future-nine for potentially higher volume. Takes a day or so to acquire a number and get it set up initially, but worth the wait. ASK if you need something special. Very easy on-line management of 'immediate' routing changes. |

GizmoProject.com has did's in the 305 area codefor $35 a year for unlimited incoming. If you want to forward to another did you may do so but it will cost for outgoing minutes at .02 Which I am sure any carrier will charge you for as well. However you can have multiple registrations at once so you can always answer it at home when you are there for free.

| Does the user get charges for outgoing only or incoming and outgoing? I would imagine the 300 minutes are apart of the above answer.
Gizmo has unlimited incoming and .02 per min outgoing. Why should USA long distance cost more? From voicepulse.com USA long distance cost at or less than .01 per minute.

That includes incoming and outgoing PSTN forwarding. It's a combined rate so it's a little different than most VoIP offerings out there. We designed it mainly because our target audience for it within our existing customer base doesn't know much about VoIP and would only be using it to forward to PSTN numbers anyway so consolidating it was better than billing for both inbound and outbound legs from a marketing standpoint. |

Any suggestions? Then, try Brring. It is an ad driven free incoming call forwarded to your designated number. You don't need an invitation to be a member of Brring; however, any existing Brring member can send you an invite to make $1/invitation. That said, if you create an account here, I can PM you a free Brring invitation. You will need to maintain at least one incoming call/month before your Brring line gets recycled into the pool for others to use.
Anyway, last I checked (about two months ago), Brring had 768 (Miami) and (305) Keys area codes. It also has 818 (Hawaii) area code! -- Mazilo always prays for FREEBIES! US Phone: +1-678-601-0907 UK Phone: +44-703-194-2574

| reply to mazilo Nothing against Brring! but folks do need to be familiar with Terms of Service:
especially this part:
4. TERM AND TERMINATION The Beta Test is expected to run for several months, ending upon Brring!'s notice, though either party may terminate this Agreement at any time for any reason by notifying the other. Upon termination Your access to the Service and use of the Brring! Number will end.....
So take note:
With a free ad-supported Beta They can run and say See Ya Later! |

| reply to kissangelo Also further thinking about this---if this is for business-type use, may want to look at:

The first two are pretty well known, the third one has somehow not made a splash. |

| reply to VOIPoTim About per minute charges for incoming fax lines...
How does the same user base view per minute charges as an entirely new concept even for incoming calls. Even the seeminly telephony backwards UK that charges per minute for local calls, only charges the caller and not the reciever. Now I am aware that the US telecom system is varied in such a way that it would be expensive and difficult to set up a similar billing system (people might riot as well) However I find it hard that a company (Gizmo) that has recently requested people add funds to their account to get personal service (which is fair) is eating the cost of incoming calls. I then assume that it either 1)Costs them nothing or 2)They obtain kickbacks for terminating calls For voicepulse.com (I forgot to mention I can also get 4 unlimited incomming lines at $11 per month. I doubt they are eating that cost too)
So for larger companies (I do not know if they are bigger) Yourself, Viatalk etc. I then assume that you are getting paid twice to terminate the same call? Once by the carrier and then another time for the customer, not only paying for it, but as I mentieond earlier above market rates.

| reply to kissangelo Level3 is one of the big providers of DIDs to VOIP providers. I believe they charge, at least in most cases, for incoming calls.
At the other end of the spectrum, MagicJack supposedly, as a CLEC, does get paid for incoming calls to it.
In the middle, you've got "flat rate" providers where incoming calls aren't charged to the VoIP provider or the end-user. Someone does get paid, but that doesn't mean the VoIP provider sees any of it. |

| Correct. Pretty much all CLECs that service VoIP make you pay for incoming minutes. Some like L3 make you pay per-minute, while others make you buy "channels" where you have for example a dedicated virtual T1. If your call volume is high you'd need to buy additional T1 blocks so in essence you're paying per-minute - although the price is lower than L3 overall.
Verizon used to do flat-rate pricing on their DIDs until yesterday. As of yesterday their incoming-only DIDs are now billed per-minute, in essence they matched Level 3. This is a very bad thing for providers that relied on their flat rate pricing, but per-minute pricing is low enough on average where this might not have much of an impact for residential customers. They still sell two-way DIDs where you get unlimited incoming and local outgoing - but those cost too much to consider for most customers IMHO. -- Nitzan Kon, CEO Future Nine Corporation |
