| [Unlock] Unlock tmobile HiPort router ?
I am going to get couple of Tmobile @Home hiport routers. Is it possible to unlock it to use with other SIP providers ? It contains the space for sim card which probably get read for sip credentials. Surprisingly there is very little information on this router on web. |

| Which router are you getting? The black one or the silver and blue?
I put in an order for the wrt54g-tm and was told it was on backorder and they were "upgrading" me to this one:
Let me know when you get them. I was told on or before the 23rd. But you're right - there isn't much info. I'm not sure if this is a newer wrtu54g-tm (notice the "u") or what. |

2 edits | The WRTU54G-TM has is a Wireless Router as well as the @ Home Router, the one that is on the link you provided does not have Wireless capabilities, only the @ Home Capabilities......The notes mention that on is for thise that already have a wireless router or dont need one. I would not classify the Black one as an "Upgrade" to the Blue and Silver one (WRTU54G-TM), but a downgrade. |

But you're right - there isn't much info. I'm not sure if this is a newer wrtu54g-tm (notice the "u") or what. don't get confused.. the black one is not a wireless router just an 'adapter' (or non wifi router). The actual router which they are going to ship is silver and blue with wifi capabilities. I (and you also) was trying to get wrt54g-tm (the pimped up dd-wrt supported router) but are getting instead non-ddwrt capable wrtU54g-tm (which tmobile calls as HiPort)
Hardware wise the difference in both is the presense of Voip ports in wrtU54g-tm. Here is link »www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellit···rWrapper . The issue in this router's sip function is locked to tmobile. If we can unlock it, it would be a nice router with built in voip. One caveat is this router's sip credentials are somehow read from SIM card (which needs to be inserted in a special slot built in this router.) I presume this router runs linux too. If that is the case, then we can install asterisk on this one too (mazilo has already done that) and it would be all in one machine ..
edit: I was on verge of cancelling the order (I got the wrt54g-tm at tmobile store) but seeing that meister_sd is getting one too I am hopeful that it can be unlocked.. :) If he cancels then i will cancel too. |

rcbrcb Premium join:2007-02-21 Chicago, IL | There are no "Unlocked" Hiport Routers on Ebay because there is nothing to unlock, the T-Mobile @Home does not use SIP. These decives will only work on T-Mobile @Home Phone service using GSM Tunneled over IPSec..... |

Were they able to price match it to $20? in one of the stores, the manager was an ass, she sold me 1 after lot of back and forth for $20. haven't been able to get another for my brother from any other tmobile store. I don't know why they are being so much cocky about selling router which they are phasing out.

I guess we have about 1 month (return period ??) to find out if these units have any potential. Another wishlist (though very difficult) will be to get the VOIP ports enabled for SIP.. |

| reply to hoolahoous This seems to be the Linksys UTA200. If so, it has a ADM8668 and is EJTAG compatible. Admin login is here:
»support.t-mobile.com/knowbase/ro···2760.htm
But after reading the slickdeal forum threads, it seems it could be this model:
The thread is here:
»forums.slickdeals.net/showthread···&page=50
I've started it at page 50, since that is where the conversation seems to start to talk about the switch to this new device. An autopsy of the second is here:
»forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?···6#p71926
It also seems like the B&M Corporate stores have the WRT54G in stock - you just have to call around. I'm going to do that now. |

2 edits | It will be the programming on it that will let it or not, do SIP.
I just got back from the Mall, and the corporate store had 6. I bought them all. One thing, I had to have a T-Mobile account to buy them. There wasn't an additional contract, it's just his computer wouldn't see it in inventory to checkout.
I'm flashing my first right now with the mega version.
FWIW - The guy wouldn't price match until he saw the internal memo stating the mad rush for them. If the store won't do it right away - have them check their internal memos.
Added: I just flashed my first router and it went well. In looking through the posts on DD-WRT, a user named Toronado might try a CFE port on the "U" version if someone supplies a serial console output. I'm going to do this and dump the ROM and take it from there. |

| went to 2 stores.. both of them refused (i have tmobile account with 5 lines).. in fact they said their 'management' has instructed them NOT to sell without any contract.. spent an hour with phone support too.. won't budge.. :-( what's with the internal memo ? flashing the regular router (wrt54g-tm) was piece of cake. I was done flashing in like about 5 mins. I am rooting for you to get HiPort working with dd-wrt too. Just dd-wrt would be awsome, voip would be icing on cake.

| I had to stress this was a corporate close out and it was available online without a contract but "pointed out" that the others did need a contract to buy the other routers.
I was ready with my online order confirmation if I had any problems. I did ask the guy if I could have the printout of the memo, but he said it was accessible only internally to T-Mobile. If I find more stores, I'll see if they can find and print me one. This guy even called Customer Support and also Sales, but they didn't know what was going on. I'd also bring the 800 number on our "Have questions about your order" because those operators seem to know all about it now.
Or - maybe I got lucky. |

I just got mine. They are the second on the list - the wireless one.
I'm working on serial (populated) and JTAG (unpopulated) right now. |

| reply to hoolahoous Well, I haven't gotten very far because I haven't had the time yet. I did get two captures from the serial port. One is a complete boot and the other stopping the boot and entering the bootloader. From there I printed a few commands and environment stuff.
I also dumped the ROM, but I haven't been able to mount it on a squashfs system yet. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow.
The stuff is zipped here:
»icanhostyou.com/wrtu54g.zip
The serial pinout from the marker going down:
1) PWR 2) TX 3) RX 4) GND
11500,8,N,1 - No Hardware
At the end of the bootup from serial, you can enter the box but you need a username and password. I didn't get past this but on another forum, someone modded the FW so it didn't need a password. I've asked for info or the FW but no answer yet. I probably can make one once I get to the squashfs box. |
